ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR 2017-18
  • Hony. President & Members.

                 On the eve of Annual General Meeting, at the first outset, I with  grievous heart  would like to recapitulate the sweet memories and continuous service to the Association of our beloved Sri. Sekhar Byaborta – Ex. Vice-President of W. B. Y. A & EX. General Secretary of Burdwan District Yoga Association and Sri. Dilip Ghosh – Ex. Vice-President of W. B. Y. A & Ex. General Secretary of North 24 Pargana District Yoga Association who have left us.  Before submission of my brief Annual Report of the  whole year  activities for the year 2017-2018, I would like to take the opportunity to convey my sincere thanks and due regard to all the members for their warm co-operation in carrying out the duties of Hony. Secretary and smooth running of the Association.

                       In brief, it may be said that our West Bengal Yoga Association is the pioneer of Yoga Culture especially in the filed of Yoga as Sports in West Bengal. It is also worthwhile to mention that our West Bengal Yoga Association is the Founder of Yoga Federation of India and hold the 1st National Yoga Championship under the leadership of Founder Secretary Late Bharatsree Kamal Bhandari. The members and Affiliated District Associations and Calcutta Units are offering their best and continuous services sincerely since its inception in the year 1972.  As a result and matter of pride that, in the field of Yoga, West Bengal Yoga Association is the only Affiliated Unit of Bengal Olympic Association, who is the controlling authority of Sports & Games in West Bengal. 


  • MEETINGS

            During the year 2017-18, four Executive Committee Meetings were held Sub-committee meetings.


  • STATE YOGA CHAMPIONSHIP

          44th. State Yoga Championship, 2017 was held at Midnapore Sports Complex on and from 12th August, 2017 to 14th August, 2017 organized by Midnapore Jagritinagar Phy. Culture Association under the auspices of West Bengal Yoga Association in which 451 representatives participated from 16 Districts, like Howrah, Hooghly, Chandernagore, Burdwan (Purba & Paschim), Nadia, Paschim Midnapore, Purba Midnapore, 24 Parganas(N), 24 Parganas(S), Bankura, Purulia, Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Dakshin Dinajpur, Murshidabad and Calcutta Clubs.  80 Judges were present all the days for awarding their valued judgments. Howrah District Won the Crown of Champion, Nadia District being the  Runner-up.

            The said Championship was inaugurated by Sri. Mrigandra Nath Maity, M. L. A in presence of other distinguished Guests. 


  • WEB-SITE

             The long desired our own WEB-SITE was opened and inaugurated by Sri. Mrigendra Nath Maity at Midnapore Sports Complex on the day of inauguration on 12th August, 2017.

 


  • NATIONAL YOGA CHAMPIONSHIP

            42nd  National Yoga Sports Championship was held from 25th to 28th October, 2017 at HRIT College Campus, Gaziabad, Uttar Pradesh organized by Uttarpradesh  Yoga Association under the auspices of Yoga Federation of India.  West Bengal Team Consisting of 42 competitors and 8 Officials won the title of Winner again securing 290 points, Haryana being 1st Runner Up securing 121 points and Jharkhand became 2nd Runner Up with 79 points.     

          In Yogasana competition, our competitors own 11 Gold, 9 Silver and 3 Bronze. In Artistic, Rythmic & Free Flow Yoga competition, we secured 4 Gold, 2 Silver & 1 Bronze. Rest of our competitors ranked withen 4th to 6th position.

            Pre-National Coaching Camp was held from 9th.September, 2017 to 15th October,2017 at Bowbazar Bayam Samity on every Saturday and on the last day of camp, Truck Suit was given to the National participants.


  • FEDERATION CUP

           2nd. Federation Yoga Sports Cup was held from 21st   November to 24th November, 2017 at Dharmasthala, Karnataka in       

 which West Bengal Yoga Team won the Crown of Champion  again securing 122 points, Jharkhand became 1st. Runner Up with 79 points and Karnataka became 2nd Runner Up with 59 points.

             At the same venue, International Yoga Sports Championship was held in which India Team became Winner, Vietnam became 1st Runner Up and Iran 2nd Runner UP. Out of India Tea, our Tanisha Das, Anusha Majumdar, Dayeta Sarkar, Mohan Kr. Singh, Madhubanti Dey & Manash Mukherjee won Gold medal, Manash Karmakar, Prabuddha Dutta, Pratyusha Banerjee, Supriya Panda, Rakhi Chatterjee, Pallab Dasgupta & Shampa Malakar won Silver and Debojyoti Pramanick & Rohan Karmakar won Bronze medal.   


  • NETAJI SUBHAS STATE GAMES

            6th Netaji Subhas State Games organized Bengal Olympic Association was held from 1st February to 4th February,2018 mostly at North Bengal.

Our West Bengal Yoga Association was allotted 3rd & 4th February to hold the Yoga Competition at Coochbehar Rajbati Stadium.

 

    At the opening of our Yoga competition, Sri. Rabindra Nath Ghosh – North Bengal Development Minister, Govt. of W. B and Sri. Swapan Banerjeee – General Secretary, Bengal Olympic Association welcomed all the players, Judges & Officials of W.B.Y.A. Selected players from all the Districts took part in the event and standard of competition was very high.

           At the Prize Distribution Ceremony on closing day on 4th February, before prize distribution to all the disciplines, our few National Players- Rohan Karmakar, Anusha Majumdar, Sneha Sinha  and Madhubanty Dey displayed Artistic & Rythmic Yoga in presence of distinguished Guests including the Ministers which was highly appreciated by all the Guests and the players & officials of other disciplines. 


  • YOGA DIPLOMA COURSE

           Like earlier years, six months Yoga Diploma Course was commenced on 13th May,2017 with 71 candidates under the able guidance of Professor (Dr.) Subrata Ghosh, Dr.P. K. Gorai, Sri. Santosh Kr. Pal, Sri. Manik Chatterjee, Sri. Subrata Chakraborty and other NIS Coaches & experienced National Referees.The examination was held in March,2018. Out of 71 candidates, 59 candidates appeared in the examination and 55 examinees became successful in the said Diploma Course in which 3 got A+, 19   candidates secured A Grade, 22 Nos. secured B Grade and 11 secured C Grade and rest 4 plucked.


  • B. O. A  ACTIVITIES

                We have participated in all the ceremonial activities organized by Bengal Olympic Association during the year 2017-18 including Olympic Day Run in which our 30 players & official took part.


  • GOVERNMENT GRANT

           It is great pleasure and pride to us to have Government Grant of Rs.5 lacs from State Council of Sports & Youth Affairs, Govt. of W.B for District Level and State Level Talent Search Tournament and we have conducted District Level Tournaments in all the Districts within February,2018 and on 4th March,2018 State Level Talent Search Tournament was held at Bowbazar Byayam Samity with all the 1st three placeholders of all the Districts. Sri. Jahar Das- Treasurer, B. O. A was present in Prize Distribution Ceremony. .


  • LEAST WE FORGET

            I acknowledge with grateful thanks for all kind of help and co-operation extended by different District Associations and Calcutta Units by organizing Competitions, Training Programmes and State Championship as also to all the Associate Members, Life Members & Judges for extending their all round support in conducting the competitions.

           Besides, I also express my sincere gratitude to Bengal Olympic Association, Sports Council of West Bengal, School Sports Association of West Bengal for their guidance and co-operation and Sri. Dilip Banerjee & other members of Bowbazar Byayam Samity for their warm co-operation in running our day to day activities throughout the year.
